World Cup: Russian Juniors Are World Champions Again
The first day of the 23rd World Race Walking Cup is approaching its end. It brought the Russian team a number of victories. In their saving-box there is the 1st place in team standing among both junior men and women. Race walkers from Russia Tatyana Kalmykova and Alexei Bartsaykin (both from Saransk) bacame world champions. It’s a joyous fact that the Chuvash school of race walking has contributed to the common victory as well: our compatriot Irina Yumanova came second in juniors.
“We are glad that our team took the first place, but it’s not novel for us because at World and European championships Russian juniors are traditionally among the best”, Tatyana Kalmykova said. In her opinion her own result was “good”.
“It’s good because it could have been better. The judges gave me two cards. I know I could have walked faster as compared to the Russian Championship. But still, my result is good among joniors”.
Irina Yumanova thanked all the supporters..”
Tatyana Kalmykova has been in sports since the time she was a 9th-grader. Both the girls study at the faculty of journalism. “I’m eager to learn the ABC of the job. I hope to make a good sports reporter one day”, she explained. “For me it’s a way to learn the people around and myself”, Irina Yumanova said.
It is also worthy of notice that our junior women were world champions in Osaka (Japan).
