Cheboksary proved its right to be Mecca of race walking

The 23 WRWC starts today on Cheboksary embankment. On the eve, on the 9th of May a solemn opening ceremony took place on the Olympic stadium. This ceremony was one of the brightest sightseeings the citizens of Chuvashia had seen before. This is actually the unanimous point of view of those participated in mini-poll, organized by our journalists right at the exit from the stadium Olympic. Fortunately it was extremely easy to conduct this exit-poll as the long line of all eager to witness this unforgettable show was ready 1,5 hours prior the beginning, the same it was in 2003, that is from the holding of the 5th European race walking Cup in our city. The additional flavour was due to unique atmosphere of the holiday on the Victory Day, the 9th of May in Cheboksary. It was very touching for example to look at Georgievskaya ribbon placed on the coat of Lamine Diack, President of IAAF. Cheboksary proved to be Mecca of race walking. This is what the president announced at the pre-cup Press conference at the seat of the Government to Mass media representatives. A bit later during the opening ceremony the head of one of the most authorized sporting world organizations openly made it known, that IAAF is ready to come back to the bank of the Volga very soon to hold here one more sound competition. And «The dessert» of the 23d WRWC opening ceremony undoubtedly were 55 boards with sails-flags of countries-participates of this holiday of sports, youth and beauty. This smoothly swam along manmade stylish river-bed the most famous river of Russia, followed by a storm of applauds of 15 thousand spectators.
During his appeal to 15 thousand army of spectators, President of Chuvash Republic Nikolai Feforov remarked: «It’s a symbollike, that we open World Cup just today, on the anniversary of the Victory Day. On this day the heroes of the Great Patriotic War smashed a terrible enemy, destroyed fascism in it’s den, to save our common right to get together as we have done today Chuvashia. The right for colorful continents peoples, cultures and languages. We are greatly thankful to all our guests, for the facts that today they are here with us. We celebrate the Victory Day all together and that means that all the victims of the Great Patriotic War were not in vain. In the nearest day Chuvashia will demonstrate the world the sporting style of race-working. And I congratulate everybody on this holiday of healthy way of life and sporting style of life».
