Russia Takes the Fourth Gold in Teams Standing and Sets Another World Record
This is already 4th gold medal of the Russian team. 50 km race walk among men gave our team an opportunity to win 3 more medals and to set up a new world record. The gold medalist of the 23rd IAAF World Race Walking Cup in Cheboksary, Russia, 11 May in 50 km became walker from Sarnask Denis Nizhegorodov who fixed a new world record of 3.34.14.
His competitor and a good friend - Vladimir Kanaykin - was 2 minutes 41 seconds behind him. Italian race walker - Alex Schwazer won the bronze medal.
“This day is a holiday for me. My principal task is solved - I will take part in the Olympic Games. And besides I won the first place” - said Denis - “and I also want to appreciate the support of all the spectators. Encouragement from the tribunes stimulated me greatly”.
It should be mentioned that it is not the first time Denis won in Chuvashia. It was this country where he set his first world record at the European Cup.
“This race road has already become native for me” - the sportsman added.
Than Vladimir Kanaykin noticed that after 30 km he had understood that he and his friend Denis would set up a new world record, the question was which of the Russians would become the recordholder.
“3 km before finish I realized that I was going to set up the world record. I am really glad that the new world record has Russian residence”- said Denis.
Obviously in this situation Alex Schwazer had difficult times as he was literally surrounded by the Russians. “It was a nightmare for me” - said the bronze medalist half in jest.
While speaking with the journalists the new world champion underlined, that the competitions were organized on the highest level.
“I have seen a lot, that is why I want to thank the organizors”. Vladimir Kanaykin who will also take part in the Olympic Games agreed with him.
”RUSSIANS never give up!” - said Denis right after the finish. So we hope that women race will bring some medals to Russia.
